Despite the excitement surrounding cloud services, a new survey of IT professionals shows that, in 2011, businesses are more likely to virtualize applications than move to the cloud.

The findings come from application performance management (APM) vendor AppDynamics, which polled more than 140 IT professionals in the enterprise.

The project, titled “Apps on the Move,” highlights some surprising findings, namely that enterprises have reservations about the cloud. In fact, 67 percent of respondents said they have no plans to migrate their applications to the cloud in 2011. Instead, they’re more comfortable with virtualization – 54 percent have virtualization projects in the pipeline for next year.

“Application environments are evolving at a rapid pace, and we see enterprises grappling with a continued state of change and complexity as they…make strides toward virtualization and cloud computing,” said Jyoti Bansal, CEO of AppDynamics.
