Netgear Adds Hybrid Cloud Capabilities, Service Portals for Channel Partners

Netgear has added capabilities to its ReadyNAS storage line and created a series of online portals to help its channel partners as they offer the cloud services to their end-user customers.

The company has added up to 100GB of online archiving to its business-class ReadyNAS storage platforms through its ReadyNAS Vault service, an automatic, cloud-based backup service. Business-class systems include up to 100GB for 12 months and the ReadyNAS Ultra family includes up to 2GB for 24 months.

“ReadyNAS Vault allows users to select the most important data being automatically backed up to an enterprise class data center," said Mark Song, product line manager for storage at Netgear. “The data is stored at Netgear partner ElephantDrive."

Business-class ReadyNAS units now also include a cloud file server option that enables seamless file sharing between local and offsite users. The cloud service runs directly on the ReadyNAS platform and is offered through Egnyte’s Office Local Cloud service.

Current customers can take advantage of the Egnyte cloud capabilities through a firmware upgrade, Song said.

The new offerings make it easier for Netgear’s channel partners to offer managed storage services to their end-user customers without having to invest in their own infrastructure. The online portals for both ReadyNAS Vault and the Egnyte Office Local Cloud are presented in a single Web-based interface, providing partners with real-time information on customer use as well as the ability to manage the accounts from any location.

“We believe the 100GB storage capacity per year will [raise] the adoption rate – a lot of ReadyNAS users will use it and be happy with it – which then will allow the channel to realize additional capacity and service time to their customers via the portals," Song said.
