Virtual Ark Taps Nimsoft to Extend Business Monitoring in the Cloud

Managed services provider Virtual Ark has signed on with Nimsoft to include the Nimsoft On Demand unified monitoring solution to its platform, extending its monitoring solutions to its large enterprise customers.

“The neat thing about Virtual Ark is they don’t actually have any hardware. They are 100 percent in the cloud," said Chris O’Connell, director of product marketing at Nimsoft. “So they’re using Nimsoft On Demand when they are developing and monitoring applications for their customers. And they’re also allowing their customers to use the product to visualize their offerings."

Having Nimsoft On Demand as part of its platform gives Virtual Ark a comprehensive, real-time monitoring solution. NOD features easy-to-read dashboards that provide information about the availability and performance of SaaS-based applications and services. The solution also includes reporting tools so IT managers can see historical data on the applications and services hosted in the cloud. Users of the Nimsoft technology are given a user ID and login to access information such as performance, availability, instance and usage, O’Connell said.

NOD also features a pay-as-you-go model, which means Virtual Ark’s customers only pay for the services they use. As customers ask for more services, O’Connell said, Virtual Ark turns around and requests the services from Nimsoft, so neither Virtual Ark nor its customers are paying for services they don’t use.

Because it is compatible with a number of public cloud environments including Amazon Web Services, Rackspace Cloud, Microsoft Windows Azure and Google App Engine, NOD reduces the need for Virtual Ark to deploy additional monitoring solutions when it adds infrastructure or new applications.

More than anything, O’Connell said, NOD offers Virtual Ark’s customers a certain level of security in dealing with cloud services.

“When you start moving things into the cloud, there is fear and uncertainty among customers about what is going on. They want to see what is occurring," he said. “Nimsoft allows Visual Ark to visualize what they are doing and remove the fear and trust by giving their customers a portal to see what is going on so Virtual Ark can say, ‘We are delivering, and at the service levels agreed to in our contract.’ It implements trust minute by minute."
