Verizon iPhone Gains Traction as Qualcomm Searches for iPhone Developer

Is it a cruel joke to fuel the Verizon iPhone rumormongers out there, or is it legit?

Qualcomm, which invented the CDMA chipset, has posted a job opening on its corporate site, calling for an “iPhone developer guru." CDMA, of course, is the standard that Verizon’s wireless network uses. Most evidence this summer has pointed toward a January release for a Verizon iPhone, but nothing has been confirmed. Of course, other carriers also use CDMA, so this job posting might not necessarily guarantee that Verizon will reap the rewards of Qualcomm’s iPhone developer guru.

The job listing calls for a Master’s degree, “but if you've been programming since you're kid and have the right experience and skills there is no problem!" the post says.

Anyone who applies is asked to sign on to “develop the most challenging product of your life!" at Qualcomm’s San Diego labs.

The listing, found on Qualcomm’s website, seems perfectly legitimate. It just seems odd that Apple, which is better known for secrecy than Bigfoot, would let this happen. Perhaps the two companies aren’t on the same page. Whatever the reason, it’s more evidence that AT&T’s exclusive stranglehold on the iPhone is nearing an end.
