It’s been a little more than two months since President Obama proclaimed he would hire a cybersecurity czar to protect U.S. computer networks. But now, instead of hiring someone, he’s losing a member of the cybersecurity team who says it’s simply taking too long to fill the position.
Melissa Hathaway applied for the position, but has pulled her name from the pool of potential hires. The top cybersecurity aide will leave for a job in the private sector. Hathaway told the Washington Post that she can’t wait any longer because “I’m not empowered right now to continue to drive the change.”
One person in the computer industry said as many as 30 people have been interviewed for the job.
