AT&T Inc. 's (T) Communications Workers of America members in the Midwest have ratified a new labor contract with the telecom giant.

According to reports, the vote in favor of the recently reached agreement was “overwhelming.”

The contract covers 18,500 AT&T wireline employees for three years. It calls for pay and pension increases, cost-of-living adjustments and certain health care benefit changes. Indeed, the wage boosts will apply retroactively to April 5, 2009, but won’t take effect until Jan. 1 of next year.

Meanwhile, more than 100,000 other AT&T workers are working to approve their union contracts. Some progress was made today when the Dallas-based company and workers in Nevada and California came to an agreement. They expect a vote some time this week.
