Google Inc. won’t confirm it, but it’s been widely reported this week that presales for the Google Android-based G1 mobile smartphone, made by HTC and offered from T-Mobile USA, have reached 1.5 million, heralding its status as a real contender to the Apple iPhone’s touchscreen, app-focused, true Internet, consumer-targeted hegemony.
The G1 officially goes commercial next week on Oct. 22.
