You know what we need? A good megamerger! Really!
That’s what analysts are talking up, anyway: The possibility of a merger between Nokia’s Symbian mobile handset OS, which powers 66 percent of mobile devices worldwide, and the Google Android platform, which, while not yet actually deployed, has c-c-c-c-cachet, baby. The result would be good news for app developers and carriers (less fragmentation in the handset space), more bad news for Microsoft Corp., which really, really wants to get little Windows Mobile adopted, and maybe some infusion of coolness DNA into Nokia smartphones (as they are, think workhorses).
