Motorola Inc. has been bumped to third place in the wireless handset manufacturer race by Samsung. Gartner Inc. says Motorola ended the third quarter with a 13.1 percent share of the market, vs. Samsung’s 14.5 percent market share.

Nokia remains firmly in the No. 1 spot globally, and increased its share to 38.1 percent.

Motorola has seen continued softening in its phone sales, now that the popularity of the best-selling RAZR has leveled off. Samsung, for its part, has been focusing on the smartphone, mobile Internet-ready market.
