Wireless master agency American Wireless has formed a new e-commerce business unit to create, deploy and manage e-commerce Web sites for specialty businesses to offer wireless phones, devices, service plans and accessories at special pricing.
Mitch McCoy, formerly vice president of marketing for American Wireless, has been tapped to lead the new unit.
“Since we began strategically investing in specialized online properties, we have been highly successful,” said McCoy, who is now vice president of e-commerce and direct channels. “We have identified highly profitable niche markets and certain groups of customers where online efficiency gains are invaluable.”
One of the unit’s customers is towPartners. This member-based program servicing the towing industry worked with American Wireless to create a specialized Web site to service its members. The site, www.shoptowpartners.com, offers special pricing on wireless products, service and accessories. “This program is a huge benefit to our members,” said Jeffrey Godwin, vice president of towPartners. “Wireless phone products and services are a crucial element of our member’s business and American Wireless created a site tailored to our member’s needs and the results have been outstanding.”
The company also said it has landed a contract with a major wireless operator to provide an e-commerce platform and related services. The carrier’s identity was not disclosed.
