Unified communications provider Applied Voice & Speech Technologies Inc. (AVST) has joined NEC's UNIVERGE Partner Program, solidifying a five-year relationship between the companies that will allow AVST to integrate its software with NEC’s telephony systems.

Both companies distribute through indirect channels.

"As IP telephony continues to gain popularity, we expect enterprise networks to shift toward unified voice and data networks, linking to new business applications," said Jay Krauser, general manager of NEC. "It is important for us to assure our existing and prospective customers that our products work well with the top unified communications products such as AVST’s CallXpress solution."

AVST’s CallXpress soon will work with the MA4000, a Web-based voice server management system, as well as other hybrid and IP systems from NEC. The integration will allow administrators to use one application to manage user information across multiple communication applications. AVST will expand CallXpress integration by using NEC’s LAN MCI and SIP specifications.

“Our objective is to provide our customers with easy-to-deploy, easy-to-use and easy-to-manage communication solutions that assist AVST customers to migrate to IP telephony,” said Tom Minifie, AVST's vice president of product management.
