Pac-West Telecomm Inc., a CLEC based in Stockton, Calif., is using Acme Packet’s Net-Net session border controllers to deliver its VoiceSource VoIP interconnect services.

VoiceSource includes IP connectivity for origination and termination of voice traffic and is offered in six Western states. Pac-West plans to expand to 36 metropolitan markets, beginning in 2006.

Acme Packet’s Net-Net session border controllers are deployed in two of Pac-West’s SuperPoPs and bridge the IP and TDM networks of Pac-West’s service provider customers for PSTN termination and origination. The session border controllers provide security functions for Pac-West such as access control, network topology hiding and DoS protection against both signaling and media attacks and overloads.

“As voice traffic transitions to IP, our customers need a secure and flexible way to connect to the PSTN,” said Michael Hawn, vice president of customer network services at Pac-West Telecomm. “Acme Packet’s Net-Net session border controllers enable us to add this feature to our voice termination and origination services.”
