Exclusive: Birch Executives Talk Channel Plans Now That Cbeyond Deal is Closed
**Editor's Note: Please click here for Channel Partners' complete coverage of Birch's acquisition of Cbeyond.**
Birch Communications now owns Cbeyond, and the wheels of integration and change are in motion.
The $323 million deal closed on July 21, far earlier than the expected October completion timeline.
In terms of change on the indirect side, Brad Smith is taking on the role of channel chief under Christopher Ramsey. Zane Long, Cbeyond’s head of channel, has left the company, and former Ernest Communications CEO Paul Masters is leading the enterprise/multilocation charge, since that was Ernest’s specialty.
What won’t change is agents’ and dealers’ terms: Birch purchased Cbeyond’s channel partner contracts.
“There should be no trepidation,” Birch CEO Vinnie Oddo told Channel Partners in April.
Meantime, there could be layoffs, and customer and partner systems from both companies still are being integrated.
In this exclusive interview roundup, four Birch Communications executives – Oddo, Christopher Ramsey, Brad Smith and Paul Masters – tell you more about the newly closed Cbeyond purchase, and what’s next for indirect partners.
