Birch-Cbeyond: Master Agents, Analysts React to $323 Million Deal
On April 21, 2014, Birch Communications announced it would buy managed services and cloud provider Cbeyond in a $323 million, all-cash deal. The news came as a bit of a shock within the competitive telecom industry – not because Cbeyond was selling but because Birch, a smaller company with arguably less exposure in the channel, was the buyer.
For Birch's part, the purchase marks its 21st since the late 1990s. Indeed, the Atlanta-based service provider, whose roots date back to the reseller days, continues to transform itself to for competition in the 21st Century.
