Palm Finds a Date to Prom

Palm Inc. recently lent a hand to The Princess Project, an organization that provides free prom dresses to girls who could not otherwise afford them. The device maker gave away a Palm Centro smartphone to the first 27 people to bring a dress donation to each of eight screenings of the 20th Century Fox romantic comedy, "27 Dresses," starring Katherine Heigl. (The Palm Treo 755p smartphone from Sprint makes a cameo appearance in the film.) Approximately 3,200 people showed up for the screenings and Palm collected 336 formal gowns, including one worn by Hiegl in the film. Since the Princess Project began in 2002, more than 7,000 girls in the San Francisco Bay Area have received dresses and accessories.

Excuse Me, I Have Gas

Panasonic, a global manufacturer of consumer electronics and home appliances, has admitted it might be a little "gassy." The company recently announced it has added ecological goals to its "GP3" three-year business plan that completes March 2010. The company aims to eliminate 300,000 tons of CO2 emissions over three years’ time, lowering the total CO2 level to 3.68 million tons in fiscal year 2010 from 3.98 million tons in fiscal year 2007. In fiscal year 2011, the company intends to bring it down further to around 3.6 million tons, the level of fiscal year 2001.
