Lifesaver
BellSouth employee Dale Reese was honored this spring for the 2002 rescue of 22-year old Jessica Prisock from a burning car on Interstate 20 in Jackson. Reese and his daughter Laura Leigh were traveling westbound on Interstate 20 when they noticed a fire in some trees on the side of the road. Reese stopped and called 911, then realized it was a car on fire. Closer inspection revealed that Prisocks car door was pinned shut by a tree, and she was trapped in the burning vehicle. Reese pulled the tree off the car and carried Priscock to safety. By the time he reached the interstate, the car was completely engulfed in flames. Police, fire and rescue personnel arrived; Prisock was taken to a hospital and treated for a broken leg and arm.
As a result of his actions, Reese will receive BellSouths Vail Award, named in memory of the first president of the former Bell System Theodore N. Vail, which carries with it a $10,000 cash prize.

Sandlers got nothing on Gen-Xers. When Web sites go on the fritz, the
Internets largest and most important demographic are most likely to kick a
chair, according to a nationwide survey of 1,241 online users conducted in April
by Synovate. Apparently those who have grown up on the Internet are
significantly less tolerant of downtime that is, crashes that render web
sites temporarily inaccessible than their elders. Nearly a quarter of young
adults get angry when their favorite website goes south. In contrast, it
irritates only 46.5 percent of those over 65.

In
a business environment where three months is an eternity the country continues
to wait for three commissioners to translate their decision onto paper, leaving
capital investment, job growth and economic expansion in a vital U.S. industry
indefinitely on hold.
