Spam Jam
Spam accounts for 24 percent of corporate mailbox traffic and could grow to nearly half (49 percent) by 2007, The Radicati Group Inc. found. The real cost of spam is not in user productivity, which is highly subjective, but rather in the cost of the messaging infrastructure required to support inflated traffic volumes, says the research firm's president and CEO Dr. Sara Radicati. Unless spam can be contained more effectively, she says such infrastructure could end up costing corporations worldwide at least $113 billion by 2007.

"Given that this provider has just filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, I have some concerns with the long-term health of competition in New Mexico. At this point, however, no evidence exists indicating that the PCS provider has stopped offering or providing service in the state."
FCC Commissioner Kevin J. Martin on the bankruptcy filing of Leap Wireless International Inc., which owns wireless carrier Cricket. On April 15, the FCC granted Qwest Communications International Inc. long-distance authority in New Mexico based, in part, on documents Qwest provided that show Cricket customers are using broadband PCS service as a replacement -- not as a supplement -- for their landline phones at home. The FCC considered similar documents in granting SBC Communications Inc. long-distance authority in Nevada on the same day Leap filed for bankruptcy.
Kudos
The State of Florida Division of Blind Services (DBS) and 3PV -- Third Party Verification Inc. have partnered to help employ individuals with sight impairments or total blindness. 3PV generally utilizes DBS placements in their live agent review process and internal call center. By using adaptive software, equipment and technology provided by DBS, sight-impaired individuals are as productive as sighted ones. In fact, the productivity and quality of work produced by DBS's placements has been such that 3PV has requested more. Currently, 50 percent of the call center is supported by DBS.
