Bringing more than 15 years of telecommunications industry and distribution experience, Brian R. Friedt has joined Telcorp, Hewlett, N.Y., as vice president, alternate sales channel markets. He will be working to attract telecom agents to the Agent Equity Program, of which Telcorp, CMS and PTC are principals.

Friedt has held various sales and sales management positions for the past five years, most notably as area channel manager for Sprint's Partners Program in the Great Lakes area, where he managed a force of partner territory managers and Sprint partners.

David Schwartz has been appointed vice president of agency sales for RSL COM U.S.A. Inc., New York. He will direct the RSL COM agent program and introduce the new RSL COM Agent Alliance Program (RAAP) at the AgENt Conference & Expo-Philadelphia '99 this month. Formerly, Schwartz was director, agent sales for Primus Telecommunications Inc.

Paramus, N.J.-based Destia Communications Inc. has appointed seven new regional agent managers. The new managers, who will be responsible for delivering the new DestiAdvantage line of telecom services and solutions, are: Roy Brightwell, Bob Famiglietti, Richard Graham, Ron Hancherick, Robert Musich, Charles Traubman and Michael Tudor.

Tulsa, Okla.-based Williams Communications Group Inc. has appointed H. Brian Thompson independent director on the Williams board of directors, concurrent with the company's initial public offering (IPO). Thompson currently is chairman and CEO of Global TeleSystems Group Inc., McLean, Va. Prior to that position, he served as nonexecutive chairman of Telecom Eireann, Ireland's incumbent telephone company, and vice chairman of Denver-based Qwest Communications International Inc.

Minneapolis-based Advanced Telecommunications Inc. has named Richard A. Smith chief operating officer. He also will retain his positions as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Prior to joining Advanced Telecommunications in October 1998, Smith was vice president of financial management for Frontier Corp., Rochester, N.Y.

e.spire Communications Inc., Annapolis Junction, Md., has appointed several officials to customer service and network-related positions. Gerald E. Brockhurst has been named senior vice president of customer care; Jeffery L. Sheldt has been appointed vice president of east region operations; and Geoffrey K. Hicks has been named director of e.spire's Network Operations Center.

DCA, Oklahoma City, has named Todd Murcer as senior marketing analyst. He will be responsible for researching and analyzing trends in the telecom industry and will assist DCA management with strategic planning. Prior to the appointment, Murcer held various positions with Zenex Communications Inc., Oklahoma City.

Morristown, N.J.-based Telcordia Technologies, formerly Bellcore, has appointed Patrick A. Cataldo Jr. group vice president of its learning services business. He also was named chief learning officer for Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC), which includes Telcordia as a wholly owned subsidiary.

Englewood, Colo.-based CSI Corp., a nationwide reseller of long distance and data communications services, announced that it has changed its name to Univance Telecommunications, in conjunction with a move in location. The company still will preside in Englewood and keep the same phone and fax numbers.

Blue Bell, Pa.-based Atlas Communications Ltd. has appointed Michael W. Spurlin president. Spurlin comes to Atlas after 14 years with Cable & Wireless plc, where he most recently served as a senior manager and director.

The company has several other new faces in its team. Richard L. Bosler, a former executive at EconoPhone, has been named vice president of international services; L. Mark Lambo, a veteran of both RSL Communications Ltd. and Trescom International, is an addition to the international carrier sales department; and Russell W. Johnson, former senior vice president of operations for North American Communications Inc., has been named vice president-operations.
