Level 3 Communications Inc. on Wednesday reported net income of $14 million for the fourth quarter of 2013, compared to a net loss of $56 million during the same period a year earlier.

Revenue, however, fell slightly, from $1.61 billion to $1.6 billion for the fourth quarter, and from $6.376 billion in all of 2012 to $6.313 billion for all of 2013.

"We had a strong finish to 2013 as our fourth quarter revenue benefited from both underlying growth and seasonal strength," said Jeff Storey, president and CEO of Level 3.

The company's core network services revenue saw growth from $1.39 million in 2012's fourth quarter to $1.44 million in 2013's fourth quarter. The number also increased for all of 2013, from $5.46 million in 2012 to $5.59 million in 2013.

Of interest to channel partners is the 11 percent higher revenue within the North America core network services enterprise segment, jumping from $586 million in 2012's fourth quarter to $651 million in 2013's fourth quarter. For all of 2013, the figures totaled almost $2.5 million for enterprise core network services in North America, compared to $2.3 million for 2012.
