Cisco this week released its expanded cloud portfolio, which includes a new hybrid platform, InterCloud.
"Customers are consuming IT differently, and line-of-business decision makers have more and more influence on IT decisions," Edison Peres, senior vice president of Worldwide Channels for Cisco, wrote in a blog. "The Internet of Everything offers tremendous opportunity, but requires a new set of services and solutions than many of our partners have offered in the past. A hybrid IT business model requires partners to address these market transitions; to provide traditional IT (on premise) solutions, managed services, private/public/hybrid cloud services, packaged with professional services, and offered with different SLAs and consumption models."
To that point, InterCloud lets enterprises build secure hybrid clouds, extending their data center to public clouds as needed. Users may choose their cloud providers and hypervisors.
Embracing hybrid IT "opens new opportunities for partners," Peres said. "It may mean expanded reach. It may mean selling into a new vertical, a new geography, or addressing new business needs within an existing customer base."
Partners with cloud building practices may implement Intercloud software into private clouds to enable easier connections to public clouds, and they can implement the software into their own public clouds or third-party public clouds.
Resellers, too, may offer Intercloud; Cisco plans to reveal more details at its upcoming Partner Summit event.
Cisco's InterCloud debut comes at an auspicious time. A new report from Infonetics Research calls hybrid cloud the next evolution in cloud architecture. The firm projects adoption among enterprises will more than double by 2015.
