Former EarthLink Sales Leader Leaves GTT to Lead Windstream Enterprise Unit

Windstream has chosen Layne Levin, a former EarthLink sales leader, to oversee its enterprise business unit.

The Arkansas-based communications giant says it did an “extensive national search” for the unit’s president. CEO Tony Thomas says his company was looking for an experienced sales executive with a broad range of skills.

“Layne is a perfect fit. He has significant senior leadership experience at companies that grew revenue through sales productivity gains and reduced churn,” Thomas said.

Levin worked at GTT from 2012 to 2017. He began as executive vice president of global sales and marketing and concluded as chief revenue officer. Windstream says Levin helped developed GTT’s channel strategy. He also led sales at Alpheus Communications and retail sales at EarthLink Business. Other past employers include Level 3, Airband, Broadwing Communications (later acquired by Level 3) and LLL Enterprises.

Levin is based in Austin, Texas.

“He will drive our efforts to differentiate Windstream from our competitors by delivering a best-in-class customer experience and leveraging next-generation technologies like SD-WAN and unified communications,” Thomas said.

Windstream went with VeloCloud Networks as its SD-WAN provider earlier this year. The company continues to make news in the channel, particularly with its acquisitions of EarthLink and Broadview. The EarthLink purchase led to a realignment of its channel program and sent several employees packing.
