Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s (HPE) $8 million Series A funding round in Hexadite in February is paying off. The companies on Tuesday announced a strategic reseller agreement that allows HPE’s direct sales team and partners to sell Hexadite’s security orchestration and automation solution.

According to Hexadite, its Automated Incident Response (AIRS) solution integrates with HPE’s ArcSight, a security management product, and leverages its real-time correlation, monitoring and threat detection capabilities to deliver threat investigation and remediation.

HPE's Sue BarsamianThe $8 million in a Series A funding round came from Hewlett Packard Ventures, Ten Eleven Ventures, and YL Ventures. Hexadite is using the funds to accelerate research and development in Israel, expand marketing and sales operations worldwide and expand the company’s product reach, according to the vendor.

“With the growing volume of data and the increasing need for intelligence-driven security operations, it is critical that organizations are able to apply automation to the manual processes of investigating cyber alerts and remediating threats,” said Sue Barsamian, senior vice president and general manager, Enterprise Security Products, HPE. “Following our recent investment in Hexadite, we’re excited to announce our go-to-market partnership designed to join HPE ArcSight with Hexadite AIRS to offer customers agent-free incident response through security orchestration and automation.”{ad}

At Gartner’s Security & Risk Management Summit 2016, held in June, the research firm identified the top 10 technologies for information security in 2016. Intelligence-driven security operations center orchestration solutions made the top 10 list.

According to Gartner: An intelligence-driven security operations center (SOC) goes beyond preventive technologies and the perimeter, and events-based monitoring. An intelligence-driven SOC has to be built for intelligence, and used to inform every aspect of security operations. To meet the challenges of the new “detection and response” paradigm, an intelligence-driven SOC also needs to move beyond traditional defenses, with an adaptive architecture and context-aware components. To support these required changes in information security programs, the traditional SOC must evolve to become the intelligence-driven SOC (ISOC) with automation and orchestration of SOC processes being a key enabler.

HPE notes the following benefits of the integrated solution:

  • Visibility across the entire IT footprint— HPE ArcSight Data Platform allows customers to collect and store information from over 350 data sources
  • Real-time detection of security threats— HPE ArcSight Enterprise Security Manager (ESM) performs real-time correlation of security events.
  • Automated incident investigation— Hexadite AIRS ingests alerts from HPE ArcSight ESM and immediately starts a full investigation
  • With Hexadite AIRS the result of one investigation can trigger further, parallel investigations
  • Automated or semi-automated remediation—Hexadite AIRS executes hundreds of remediation actions automatically without human intervention or in semi-automated mode requiring approval
  • Single system of record—Hexadite AIRS sends all results back to HPE ArcSight so that correlation rules can be fine-tuned to continue to reduce false positives
  • Hexadite’s security orchestration and automation platform leverages HPE ArcSight ESM’s correlation data, giving it context
    to investigate alerts and remediate cyber threats in minutes at scale

Hexadite first launched AIRS in 2015. The vendor will be exhibiting at HPE Protect 2016, being held at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland, Sept. 13-16.
