Networking giant Juniper Networks has a deal in place to buy BTI Systems, a provider of cloud, metro networking systems and software, with North American headquarters in Ottawa and Boston.

Juniper Networks' Matt HurleySilicon Valley-based Juniper expects the acquisition will help it address the fast growing data-center interconnect (DCI) and metro Ethernet market for packet and optical services. It combines Juniper’s switching and IP routing platforms with BTI’s cloud-connect optical platform. The result, the companies say, is “open, automated and highly efficient packet optical transport solutions to customers.”

BTI Systems caters to content, cloud and service providers, with the goal of making businesses in major metro areas and data-center hubs more efficient and profitable.

Partners selling BTI products shouldn’t expect Juniper to leave them behind. And for Juniper’s partners, there’s new opportunity.

“Juniper’s go-to-market strategy will include leveraging our existing channel for service providers with an emphasis on targeting our strong base of existing customers and resellers,” wrote Juniper’s Matt Hurley, corporate VP, global channels, in a blog. “We will also target the service-provider channel through both our partners and our direct sales force, while enabling the ecosystem of our existing relationships with strategic partners that have a focus on delivering optical solutions to the market.”{ad}

Hurley says for those currently selling BTI products, it’s status quo. Training and certification programs are in the works, with more details to come. Existing Juniper partners who want to learn more about BTI can go here.

Financial terms of the deal were not released. Juniper expects the deal, subject to customary closing conditions, to be final in April.
