IBM is getting deeper into the mobility space with the acquisition of Fiberlink Communications.

Big Blue is among the traditional equipment vendors adding services to its business model so it can take advantage of end users’ shift to the cloud.

As such, IBM is buying Fiberlink for its MaaS360 cloud platform, which provides BYOD  lifecycle management and security. IBM has been working on its mobility strategy through its so-called MobileFirst effort.

MaaS360 will become part of IBM’s SaaS portfolio and provisioned through the SoftLayer infrastructure. Financial terms of the deal, which should wrap up later this year, were not disclosed.
