IP and managed services provider Birch Communications continues to expand in Florida with the purchase of DayStar Communications’ assets.

As a result, Chris Aversano, Birch’s COO, said the company welcomes DayStar’s customers to its fold, as well as employees and dealers.

“[We] are committed to making this a smooth transition for all,” he said in a prepared statement.

The move comes about a month after Atlanta-based Birch landed some refinancing so it could conduct more M&A.

The transaction marks Birch’s 16th major acquisition in six years and gives Birch more reach in the Sunshine State. DayStar, a CLEC running on a Metaswitch network, serves southwestern Florida and locations in other states. It specializes in local and long-distance voice, broadband Internet access, T1, PR, hosted services and voicemail for SMBs. In 2011, Birch bought bankrupt Cordia, headquartered in Orlando, and AstroTel, near Tampa.

As with those deals, the financial details of the DayStar purchase were not disclosed; the acquisition should close in the third quarter.
