Toshiba Debuts Cloud-Based Phone System

Toshiba's VIPedgeToshiba’s telecom division on Tuesday released its cloud phone system for businesses, available through authorized dealers.

The introduction marks the company’s first foray into a non-premises-based communications platform.

The product, called VIPedge, lets companies pay a monthly fee for scalable service so they don’t have to buy expensive hardware. To that point, the starting cost averages $29.99 per user. Software upgrades and system administration are included in that price. Then, as an organization grows, executives may decide to migrate to an on-premise system, and VIPedge is compatible with Toshiba’s IPedge line. VIPedge works with Toshiba’s phones.

VIPedge comes with a number of features, including:

  • Unified communications with Toshiba Call Manager
  • Click-to-dial, presence and IM
  • Integration with CRM programs including Salesforce.com, Act! and Microsoft Outlook
  • Mobility functionality
  • Optional international calling plans
