Arizona Regulators Approve CenturyLink-Qwest Merger

The Arizona Corporation Commission has approved the pending merger between CenturyLink Inc. and Qwest Communications.

The companies committed to investing at least $70 million in broadband infrastructure in Arizona over five years, Qwest said in a press release.

Monroe, La.-based CenturyLink and Denver-based Qwest still need Federal Communications Commission approval as well as regulatory clearance in Minnesota, Oregon and Washington.

In its fourth-quarter earnings announcement, CenturyLink revealed that it anticipates closing its acquisition of Qwest on April 1.
