BlackBerry 8980 Release Pending, Likely a Curve Upgrade

BlackBerry fans will be excited to hear that an announcement about the follow-up to the Curve 8900 could be coming soon.

The website Phone Scoop came across documents on the FCC website that offer up some specs for the BlackBerry 8980, which has not yet been announced by RIM or any U.S. carrier. They include:

  • full QWERTY keyboard
  • optical trackpad
  • 3.2MP camera w/ flash
  • Bluetooth capability
  • 802.11b/g/n/ Wi-Fi
  • quad-band GSM/EDGE radios
  • 3.5mm headset jack

No word yet on cost, but BlackBerrys parent company, Research In Motion, has been slashing some prices lately and debuting some phones at lower cost in order to keep customers from running to the iPhone and Android-based smartphones. RIM has been hemorrhaging market share to Apple and Android in recent months.
