AT&Ts iPhone Exclusivity May Continue Through 2010

Just last week, an analyst from Credit Suisse predicted that AT&T would keep its exclusive deal with the Apple iPhone until the end of 2010 or even mid-2011. Today, another analyst is backing up that opinion, saying an exclusive deal between the two companies seems almost sure to last until the end of this year.

Vijay Jayant of Barclay’s Capital puts a lot of stock in Apple’s recent decision to give AT&T an exclusive for its new tablet computer, the iPad. He calls it a “vote of confidence” in the carrier.

“While iPad sales are unlikely to materially impact wireless revenues in the short term, selecting AT&T to launch its second major communications product reflects Apple’s bias for the global GSM platform and the prospects of AT&T’s network capability,” Jayant wrote.

AT&T’s stock price was up a little more than 1 percent after Tuesday’s closing bell. Apple’s also rose by more than 1 percent.
