Obama Officials Seek to Dismiss Immunity Lawsuits

The Obama administration isn’t happy about doing so, but it’s defending the telco immunity law passed by Congress last year.

A Justice Department spokesman told the San Francisco Chronicle: “The department is compelled to defend statutes as long as it can reasonably do so, and in this case the department was asked by the court to make a defense of the statute passed by Congress.”

That means the 40 lawsuits against the government and telecom providers for illegally sharing phone records and e-mails with the National Security Agency might get dismissed.
