Net2Phone, CMA Bring VoIP to New Markets

VoIP provider Net2Phone Inc. has expanded its agreement with cable operator CMA Communications (CMA) to provide cable telephony services to four more markets in Texas and Nevada.

The two companies earlier this year started delivering digital phone services to CMA customers in Belle Chasse, La., a New Orleans suburb. That deployment has been delayed because Hurricane Katrina damaged CMAs plant in Belle Chasse. Net2Phone and CMA since September have offered free VoIP calling to Belle Chasse residents impacted by the hurricane at the FEMA/Red Cross Center; they say they now will be able to offer residential phone services in the rebuilt Belle Chasse market, and the new markets in Texas and Nevada in 2006.

The five markets represent approximately 50,000 homes.
